Leadership Management Development
/The experience I have had with my success and the students in management and leadership positions is always based on the effort in physical activity. Exercise and intentional movement is paramount to have mental clarity to be disciplined and allows one self to lead a team with authority. The ability to lead a team with adequate organization is rooted from holding oneself accountable to self care by training the body frequently thus improving confidence and self esteem. Recently, I have witnessed a Regional Director with his team have this issue. Aside from this case study, it has also occurred in my last 10 years of coaching that when there is a lack of consistent physical training, the brain’s power to have focus will decline. Many times I have seen it due to resistance in going to the gym, hiking, or anything that helps get the blood and heart pumping. I truly believe that the employees will be disorganized because unassigned productive tasks are not given. Another factor is because if one staff member is not being encouraged to workout and apply wellness to his/her life it causes the other team members to slow down and not have structure. I believe that when a Vice President, Director, and Manager can have similar attitudes in encouraging workouts one time a month with the entire staff and on their own, it will help influence everyone from operations, customer service, and sales representatives to increased mental focus. The fact is that recently it happened in our consultation that the management team had the same issue in multiple store locations when he described that inventory was not organized because of the previous event for the company. That was an excuse to get away with the unorganized space of the office and not willing to take responsibility of the management to make self improvement a priority. Being in any level of leadership is just like a head coach of a NFL football team or any elite sport that would require that the coaches are aware of why being in a consistent regiment themselves is important. It is necessary to not allow laziness in the office because it is contagious. When one person is unhealthy and overweight, that affects everyone. All things we experience will have a ripple effect on others’ lives around us and beyond. You, reading this as a leader, make sure to recognize that physical training is looking out for yourself but also for the team you lead. An organized, healthy lifestyle will help structure other aspects of work life and more.
